4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
NET 4a
a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.
This year my school district purchased the rights to provide learning.com access for the students in our district. The students have their own login and the teachers are required to take the students through the provided curriculum. The curriculum includes interactive lessons on internet safety and tips for researching using the internet, and also teaches basic keyboarding skills. I typically take students to the lab once a week and they work through the curriculum at their own pace. I circulate around to give them extra help when needed and also to monitor their progress. If they do poorly on one of the topics, they have to redo it until they receive a pass. I also am able to access a list of the grades and assignments completed. There are also some lessons built in that require me to hold class discussions on topics like Netiquette, Acceptable Use Policies, and Cyber Bullying. They also have built in journaling opportunities, and skits that students can work on as projects to help with their understanding of internet safety. I do think this program is effective in teaching the children about the dangers that can be found on the internet and appropriate ways to use the internet in order to communicate with others. The links are the login site and also a page from the technology curriculum my students work on during the school year. I also linked a copy of the objectives of the cyber bullying lesson and a report of the students' mastery on one of the objectives in artifact 1.
Artifact 2 is an acceptable use policy that provides guidelines for the students when using technology and also outlines expectations for parents. The discussion and modeling that takes place with this policy will cover plagiarism and this policy will be referred to as students are taught the proper way to take notes when doing research.

My district also requires that every student, parent, teacher, and community member that uses district resources agrees with and signs the acceptable use policy. The policy forms are located on our district website and the district keeps track of those that have completed the forms in our system. If a person has not filled out the form they are not allowed to use the technology. I also created an acceptable use policy for my classroom as follows:
_Chromebooks in our Classroom
NETS 4b
b. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.
In Artifact 1 students have the ability to choose their own project and make a decision on what digital tools and resources they would like to use in order to present their project.
In the second artifact, students are able to guide their learning based on their ability. Ixl also gives them the choice of different standards they can work on depending on what area they want to focus on and so they can choose based on their interest. It is also organized by ability, so if they are struggling with a topic, they can focus on that area. This site is used by my students to work on their math based on their ability. It shows the main page. If you click on a grade level at the bottom, it shows the lessons that are offered through Ixl. Students can choose the best level based on their ability and also based on their interest.

c. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.
In the first artifact, I included using respectful and courteous comments to others on the internet. I also addressed not sharing personal information and plagiarism. Although they are a simple part of the contract, the contract will also lead to discussion of these expectations in the classroom and modeling of those expectations.
Artifact 2 is a site that the students use to learn about internet safety and netiquette. Students in our district go through each of the lessons from the site and there are also lessons that are completed in the classroom dealing with this subject matter.

d. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools.
Students in the first Artifact were able to compare and contrast their surroundings to that of Africa. They were able to see differences in other cultures.
In Artifact 2 there is a link to Promethean Planet which is a website that I use to find lessons from colleagues that I can use with my students. When you search for lessons, there is an advanced search feature that allows you to not only search in the US, but also other countries. This site allows me to collaborate with other educators to get ideas and find projects for my students.
